THE ROUTE​​

 

This easy circular route takes place within Companhia das Lezírias, in the municipality of Benavente, across a vast territory of remarkable landscape diversity, where agricultural, forestry and livestock activities coexist alongside important natural values and biodiversity conservation areas.

 

The route follows rural tracks and unpaved trails throughout. With a predominantly flat profile and very little elevation gain, it offers an accessible and enjoyable walking experience.

 

Along the way, walkers pass through a variety of landscapes characteristic of this extensive estate, including irrigated farmland, olive groves, cork oak woodlands with and without undergrowth, areas dedicated to wild rabbit breeding, livestock farming areas and the iconic Carrasqueira Pine Forest.

 

This diversity of landscapes provides an insight into the wide range of activities and ecosystems that coexist within Companhia das Lezírias, revealing a territory where production, forest management and nature conservation are all part of the same identity.

 

Between wide-open horizons, agricultural fields, cork oak woodlands and wooded areas, the route offers different perspectives on the landscape and on the long-standing relationship between people and this territory. The variety of habitats also supports a diverse range of fauna and flora, making this walk an opportunity to discover, at a relaxed pace and from close up, some of the natural values that characterise the municipality of Benavente.

 

More than just a walking route, this is an experience of discovery through one of Portugal’s most emblematic rural estates, following tracks traditionally associated with the management and everyday life of this vast territory.
