THE ROUTE

This approximately 8 km walk invites you to discover one of the most unique landscapes in the municipality of Rio Maior, where the salt-making tradition intersects with the natural richness of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park.

The route follows mainly rural paths, dirt tracks and small trails, crossing a landscape marked by limestone relief, agricultural fields, scrubland and Mediterranean vegetation. Throughout the walk, contact with nature is constant, in a territory where stone and water tell a story of thousands of years.

One of the most interesting moments will be passing through the Rio Maior Salt Pans, one of the most emblematic testimonies of the relationship between local communities and the natural resources of the territory. Here, the presence of saltwater, despite the distance from the sea, gives rise to a set of salt pans fed by an underground spring, whose exploitation maintains a strong connection with local identity and tradition.

A route designed for exploring Rio Maior on foot, combining heritage, nature, and landscape in a tranquil and accessible experience, where each kilometer reveals a little more of the region's authenticity.

✔ Can I cancel? Yes, with prior notice. Although registration is free, we don't want other interested parties to be prevented from participating because of participants who don't cancel in advance.
